This is the MV-1 – The only production wheelchair accessible vehicle made in the world, and it was produced right in Indiana, USA by AM General – makers of the Humvee and Hummer!
Made originally by Miami, Florida startup company Vehicle Production Group (VPG) from 2011-2012, then bought by AM General and produced further from 2014 to 2016 under the company Mobility Ventures. The MV-1 offered a very durable, commercial-grade, and comparatively affordable alternative to vehicles modified to fit wheelchairs and/or other accessibility features, like conversion vans.
Originally based on a Ford Crown Victoria engine and transmission (4.6L Modular PI V8 and possibly the 4-speed 4R75W/E automatic?), and paired with a 5th Gen Chevy Camaro rear differential, it is an odd but effective platform built around a ramp that comes out of the passenger rear door. There were options for additional air conditioning units, a manual pull-out ramp and a fully motorized automatic ramp, and the vehicle could be modified with a transfer drivers chair, hand controls for brake and throttle, and remote operated side door and ramp. A Compressed Natural Gas adaptation of the Ford Modular 4.6L V8 was also available at least on the earlier production years. Later years switched to the Ford Cyclone 3.7L V6 and a 6-speed automatic – very similar to offerings from the 12th generation (2009-2014) F-150.

Pictured above is The Big Grape – a 2012 VPG MV-1 originally purchased to help a wheelchair-bound father get out of assisted living and seeing the world a bit in his last days. Later, it was brought on Hot Rod Power Tour 2023 but got hit midway on Hot Rod Power Tour 2024 and retired to a farm in Texas.
